Listing Information:

In 1848, Samuel Fiddler opened Fiddler Funeral Home on Church Street in Allentown , New Jersey. Mr. Fiddler operated the funeral home for almost 40 years, providing dependable, caring funeral service to the Allentown community. In 1887, Mr. Fiddler sold the business to George V. Leming, who promised to carry on the traditions of service and community involvement. He renamed the business Leming Funeral Home. In 1919, Mr. Leming's nephew, Norman T. Peppler asked his uncle if he could join the business, after losing both of his parents. Although only 14 years old and a sophomore in high school, Norman realized the importance of providing comfort to those who had lost a loved one. He enrolled in Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia and completed the six week required preparation course. However, Norman had to wait until he turned twenty-one before he could receive his funeral directors license in 1927. Shortly thereafter, he purchased the funeral home from his uncle, renaming it Leming and Peppler Funeral Home. Then in 1939, he moved the funeral home to 114 South Main Street and began operating under the name Peppler Funeral Home. Norman's son, Edgar, entered into the business in 1958 followed by another son, Robert in 1961. The Peppler Funeral Home was incorporated in 1965 and the second location at 122 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown was opened shortly afterward. Then, after 46 years in the business Norman Retired in 1973, leaving the business in the capable hands of his sons Edgar and Robert. Edgar's son, Edgar Peppler, Jr. entered into the business in 1987 and Robert's daughter, Karen Peppler in 2001. They are the fourth generation of the Peppler family to run the business and are proud to continue its long-standing tradition of community involvement and service to Allentown, Bordentown, and the surrounding areas.
